The Millennium Hilton Bangkok stands moments away from the shimmering Royal Palaces on the banks of the legendary Chao Phraya River, steeped in legend and ritual. The interior design of the Millennium Hilton takes guests on an interpretation of this wonderfully rich and inspiring riverscape.

The Bangkok riverscape and folklores feed into the interiors. The Thai creation myth of Ramakien and the Festival of Light are both brought to life with the expertise of local craftspeople. Reflections of traditional long-tail boats and golden palaces that shimmer on the river inspired our colour choices and focal design pieces.

The soaring atrium was the perfect place for an impressive chandelier design. The lighting feature incorporates lanterns inspired by the annual sky lantern festival, Yi Peng, where lanterns bring luck for the future as they float to the skies, creating a memorable ambience alongside Siamese fighting fish swimming between the lanterns.

“We worked with all local suppliers on this project. We wanted to utilise local artisans because it is such a highlight – from the woodworking to porcelain tiles, furniture pieces and artwork – this was the perfect opportunity to showcase Thailand’s skilled craftspeople.”

A celebration of the beauty of Thai tiling and excellence of craft. The dining space’s rich palette and explosion of detailed tiling create a lively ambiance. One of the highlight here has to be the influence of traditional clothing to inspire patterns found here, while the pure hanging lotus style lanterns, create a focal piece to bring this all day dining experience together.

A space set apart for celebration and occasion, the Ballroom needed to create the perfect backdrop for the events to come. Golden, oxidised metal screens handcrafted by local artisans sit alongside traditional Thai carved panels made from metal. Silver leaf ceilings mirror the water-patterned carpet beneath, a metaphor for how the water listens to its environment.

“It was a pleasure to be part of the renovation for The Millennium Hilton in my hometown of Bangkok. We took inspiration from the rich history and folklore to create unique, crafted items and an overall experience for travellers to embrace and enjoy the vibrance of Thailand.”
